What Would Make My Car’s Air Conditioner Blow Hot Air?

If you cannot remember the last time you had your car’s A/C serviced, there are a number of things that could be going wrong and this is why it is blowing hot air. You need cold and refreshing air blowing out of the vents in the summer, and Eddie’s Auto Service can restore your vehicle’s A/C with a climate control inspection, service, and repair (if necessary). Any number of the following things could be causing your air conditioner to malfunction and blow hot air.

Dead Compressor

The compressor is responsible for turning the refrigerant gas into a liquid and moving it through the air conditioning system so that it cools the air before it blows through the vents. The compressor is an automotive part that works better when it is used frequently. If it isn’t used in a long time, it can die and this could be why you have hot air coming into your car even though the A/C is on.

Dead Condenser

The condenser gets a lot of abuse. It is located directly behind your automobile’s grille, and it is pelted regularly by road debris. Dirt also clogs the condenser, and there’s no way to avoid this because of where it is located and the amount of dirt that is on roadways. It’s possible the condenser is dead because it is clogged with dirt or has been damaged by road debris that has made its way through the grille.

Electrical Problem

Your automobile’s air conditioning system has its own electrical system to help it run. This system includes a series of wires, relays, connectors, and a fuse in your fuse box among other parts. If you have turned on your air conditioner and nothing is happening, it’s possible that you have an electrical problem that needs to be addressed. This cannot only cause your air conditioner to malfunction but it can also prevent the fans that blow the air through the vents from operating.

Low Refrigerant

Finally, refrigerant takes two forms as it is run through the air conditioning system. It is initially gas that is compressed into fluid as we stated above. If it has been a long time since you had your vehicle’s A/C serviced, it’s possible that your refrigerant levels are too low and they need to be replenished. Refrigerant can leak out of the system and it can also evaporate.
